Working with us

Point.51 regularly collaborates with freelance journalists and photographers who have experience of issues-based reporting on a local, national, or international level. Point.51 is a thematic publication and we work with contributors to develop story ideas that fit with the themes we have planned for future issues. Please do not send completed stories or unsolicited pitches.

Key information:

Point.51 focuses on contemporary issues in Europe. We publish stories that either take place in or are connected thematically to countries within Europe or the continent as a whole. Please make sure you are familiar with the kinds of stories we have already published.

We pay for all commissioned long-form stories and significant photo essays. Our standard contributor fee is €350, and we also cover certain reporting expenses by prior agreement. We do not currently offer internships.

Please make sure you are familiar with the kinds of stories we have previously published before contacting us. Please note that we do not commission work reported from active war zones, breaking news, restaurant reviews, recipes, or opinion pieces, and will not reply to these. We expect everyone we work to follow strict ethical standards while on assignment for Point.51.

To express interest in working together, please send an email which includes the information outlined below. While we read every email received, owing to the volume of submissions, we are unable to reply to every submission.

For journalists:

Please provide two examples of previously published work, or two writing samples in English (or translated into English)

You should be comfortable developing and reporting an in-depth story through to the publication of a 3,000+ word long-form piece

You should be comfortable working with an editor through revisions and rigorous fact-checking

For photographers:

Please send a link to your portfolio or PDF(s) including two projects or features (we are also happy to consider work in progress). You can also provide links to previously published work.

Please send a short paragraph introducing yourself and your areas of interest as a photographer.

You should be able to write accurate captions and metadata to accompany your photographs. You can find a guide on how to do that here.

We regret that we cannot cover additional costs for film, development or scanning of analog photography
